Where to Cool Off in Arlington

AC-in-library

The DC area is known for its humid, swampy weather, but so far this summer has felt especially sweltering. In mid-July, we can only expect things to get even more sizzling before autumn is upon us. Here are a couple spots in Arlington near Lyon Place to cool off and beat the heat this summer!

The Public Library

Less than a mile from the Clarendon metro, Central Library on Quincy Street offers a relaxing, quiet spot with ample air conditioning. If you are working remotely, this is a great place to be productive without having to brave the climbing temps outdoors. The library is free and open to the public as of July 6th, though you may want to consider masking up (even if fully vaccinated!) and abiding by appropriate social distancing guidelines.

Hayes Park

This neighborhood park is located just a few blocks away from Lyon Place and offers a splash pad, playground, and covered picnic areas. Though it’s not huge, it is conveniently-located and great for kids all summer long. Even if you don’t have children in tow, the splash pad provides some cooling relief for hot feet or you can read a book sitting on a bench in the shade. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and the splash pad operates from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

The Whole Foods Cafe

While the coffee bar is currently closed, Whole Foods Market offers cafe seating for those who want to get some work done or enjoy a meal onsite. Like most grocery stores, the AC is on at full blast and offers a delicious respite from the heat outside. Wander the frozen food aisles for an extra chill and conser stocking up on some popsicles or other icy treats while you’re there. Whole Foods Market is located between the Courthouse and Clarendon metro stops making it an easy walk for Lyon Place residents.

Of course, you can always enjoy AC in the comfort of your own home, but if you’re looking to get out of the house and explore the neighborhood, these three spots are worth checking out. Stay cool this summer and make the most of the area surrounding Lyon Place apartments!
