A Day Trip from Clarendon to Leesburg

Historic town of Leesburg

Clarendon is one of the best-located neighborhoods in the DMV. With easy access to downtown DC as well as a number of bustling Arlington towns, there’s rarely a reason to journey beyond the zip code. Lyon Place residents are fortunate to have everything they need in a several-block radius.

Some days though, it’s nice to see new places, try new restaurants, and explore a new area. Clarendon residents are less than an hour from Leesburg, a charming, historic town that makes for the perfect day trip.

Hit up the Outlets

When many locals hear “Leesburg” they immediately think of the Leesburg Premium Outlet stores. Located just a few minutes from the center of town, these shops offer some of the best deals on luxury items. You can find Uggs, Kate Spade, Burberry, and Coach merchandise at steep discounts, fuel up with a coffee or lunch at one of the restaurants or cafes, and then continue the shopping spree. This fall, there is a Ferragamo popup that will likely be quite popular!

Walk (or Bike!) The W&OD Trail

The same trail that runs parallel to Rosslyn, Clarendon, and other Arlington neighborhoods runs all the way through Leesburg and beyond! Begun in 1974 and completed in 1988, the Washington and Old Dominion Trail runs 45 miles from Shirlington to Purcellville and links up with numerous other walking and bike paths along the way. Stroll away from the center of Leesburg and you’ll find a lovely park, a babbling brook, and some fun outdoor sculptures. Once you’ve seen all the park has to offer, walk along the paved trail to escape into nature and get some steps in. It’s the best way to work up an appetite for dinner.

Dinner at Tuscarora Mill

After a long day or shopping, walking, and enjoying the town of Leesburg, treat yourself to dinner at Tuscarora Mill. With ample outdoor seating (covered and open air options available), this local favorite does not disappoint. The quintessential American dishes are flavorful and the service is top notch. Don’t miss out on the famous corn chowder or the shrimp and grits — And remember that the desserts are worth saving room for!

For residents of Clarendon apartment buildings who are looking for a quick trip outside the city, Leesburg is full of fun shops, restaurants, and entertainment options for the whole family.
